HELENSVILLE DOMAIN.
TO THE EDITOR,
Sir. —For a considerable' time ; ;now the Helensville Town Board jahave prided themselves upon the cojratrol and administration of the Helensi ville Hot Springs. le The attached-letters will come; as a shock to most .of the Residents^ of Helensville that an attempt is blesing made to take from the District pj the control of these Springs. ri I am not going into the matter jj bow as to whether it would be for the jfcc ultimate benefit of the District if tithe, change were made. It is quite i_ an open question as to whether it wdhuld be good or not ior control-to be taj ken over by the Tourist Department. } All ! I can say now, is that the majttter should never have been represented to the Minister in charge and reached the present 5 stage before it-had bjeeen discussed by the Helensville Doml-ain Board and referred to the people \D7hO are responsible for.the present de\jhel opment. In the past the Tourist 3> Department have not assisted in jtthe furtherance of' these Springs—w'ihat guarantee have w^e that our intei'r'est will not suffer in the future as in th-he past. r I would mention (as Chairman t' of the. Board) the first intimation I _figot of this matter. \yas by letter received from Mr Coates on Saturday and fche explanation came by notice naijded on my door by Mr McLeod on Siijin* day—both the lettet and notice I gfive here, \ p - I immediately wired to Mr Somdu's, an old Resident of Helensville w Tho bis now Mayor of Te Aroha to which fllie replied, both my wire and his repljc/ I give you here. . .""""""^ I contend now that the present Board in its dying hours have $no right ~to pass any resolution at Its final ineeting two days before t : he election dealing with these Spririjgs and it is for the People of this Tot ;vn to say if they are tired of the possesion of their Domain and are anxious I, to see the control go into other han.ds after so much has been done to briing thera to their present state of perfcpc-* tion. aj I remain jYours faithfully. |- James Steward, Copy. —Received Saturday, 7th 19 '■! 2 j —4th Sept. 1912, — James StewaiH, !
