"Two papers," he says, "are worthy of special mention. The essay of No. 10, Std. 5, is quite the best of all those I examined and is well up to the level of Std. i 6 pupils. An exceptionally fine drawing was sent in by Candidate No. 7, Std. 5." These papers were the work of Trixie Wharton (Helensville), and "William Muru (Woodhill) respectively. [Unfortuneately we are unable to reproduce the beautiful drawing sent in by the latter; but we are pleased to be able to print the essay next week.] The winning papers will be forwarded in turn to the competing schools, and will afterwards be placed on view at this office. The interest that has been taken in the competitions guarantees their continuance as an annual affair. We consider that great credit is due to Mr J. H. Harvey, Head masterof Te Pua School, for the way in which the competitions were carried out, he having been the prime mover in the matter, as well as doing all the, secretarial -work in connection therewith.
