Sunrays Acetylene Gas Generator.
The " Kanpara Advertiser" reporter waited on Messrs Burton Bros yesterday to get a few particulars as to the new appliance being installed at the Helensville Hotel. At first sight one is struck with its simplicity. In most generators there ai-e a large number of screws but in this one there are none. A further good feature is that there are no rubber or leather washers to get out of order, thus minimising the danger of an explosion. As soon as the generator is- charged the gas is available. This is a great advantage over previous Generators in which it took son-e time for the process of gas making to start, The Sunrays Generator can be charged without the light being interfered with, all the Carbide put in the holder is used, there beirig absolutely no waste in this respect, the generator has no seperate purifying apparatus. After being made, the gas passes through water three times and when it issues at the jet it is thoroughly purified and cooled. The generator on view yesterday was the acnip of simplicity, one of the strongest features of the generator is that lights may be used about it with the greatest freedom without any risk of an explosion. The Gasometer is so large that it enables you to charge the machine with gas enough to last for a iong time without risk of the carbide becoming baked, and therefore wasted. It is claimed that the Gas manufactures can be used both for cooking and motor power, The genorator was charged m the presence of our reporter arid the operation took, as the proprietors claimed, no longer than the filling- and trimming of "an ordinary kerosene lamp. In conclusion it must be said that the generator is the acme of simplicity and a man of ordinary intelligencee ould pick up the working of it in a few minutes, it has been very popular in Australia, where among other installation two towi>s, do their street' lighting with Sunrays plant, The machine has also met with great success iv the Canterbury district. Messrs Burton Bros are afc p esent executing an order for a big plant for Mr Cucksey's Helensville Hotel. They have several other orders in hand for Helensville resit! ents. Mr G. L. Burton, the senior partner of the firm in conversation with our reporter, diew special attention to the fact that the ni&chme is entirely man. ufactured in tLie district so that thp.re will never be any trouble about re pairs or the replacing of parts.
