A few weeks ago a young fellow was killed in a ba.ckblocks district in Tavanaki, It now transpire that the •unfortunate young man hud e/I'octed a policy in the A. M. P. Society for i)-JOO just eighteen months previous to the accident. Ho had paid the first year's permium, but when the subsequent notices had been forwarded he replied that, as his younger brother, who was incapacitated, was now di« p1 endent on him, he had decided to surrender the policy. The agent who airanged the insurance in the first place called on the man, pointing out his foolishness, and asking him to reconsider. TLe canvasser laid stress on the case of the younger brother, and explained how hard things would be with the boy in the event of an ac cident, An appointment was accordingly made last Saturday, when the policy was to have been renewed, but fate ruled otherwise, as the accident : Jiai earlier in the week.
