HELENSVILLE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Committee was held on July 16th. Present: Capt. Hammond (Chairman), Messrs Bradly, Constable, Olive, and White.

The Chairman reported that Mr Farrell, the architect of the Board had visited the School with reference to the increased accommodation, which he said he would recommend being done.

A letter was read from the Secretary, Board of Education, stating that the Board would apply to the Minister of Education for a grant to enlarge the porch.

The Architect of the Board informed the Chairman that porcelain basins would be put in to replace the old ones now perished.

Technical School. —A letter was received from Mr George George, Director of Technical School, stating that he would try and arrange for Evening Classes, and the Secretary was instructed to write again arid ask Mr George to start them as soon as possible.

The Chairman reported, that he had had the tanks cleaned out, and his action was confirmed. He also reported that the Inspector had visited the School, and that the report was very favourable. Since last meeting, continued the Chairman, there had been a meeting of teachers of the various adjacent schools, with regard to getting up a competition for scholars of the schools in various subjects. The matter was discussed and the committee were in favour of the matter being carried out, and thought it was an excellent idea.

Mr Olive was appointed Visiting Member until next meeting.

Accounts paid between meeting amounting to £2/13 were passed, while accounts amounting to 15/9 were passed for payment.
