PARAKAI LEAP YEAR SOCIAL.
Last evening a large number of ladies representing Parlchurst, Te Pua and Parakai met at the Parakai Hall to arrange a for Leap Year Social. Mrs 0. Newman, occupied the chair, and said it was evident by so many being present that the reason the meeting was called, that of forming a committee and officers to carry out the arrangements for tho Social, needed no explanation. Without much ado Thursday, the 27th June, was fixed as the day and date of the function. A large committee of enthusiastic workers was selected, consisting of Mesdatnes Newman, Eea, Barnes, E. 0. MoLe^d, Plait and McAdams; Misses "SV. McLeod, I. McDonald, M. Nicholls, T. Bradly, T. McDonald. A. Bradley, E, Vercoe, D. Brown, G. Nicholls, N. McLeoi, 4. Spinley, M, Bradley, and G. Evans. Misses W. McLeod and I, McDonald were appointed joint secretaries. It Avas "decided that all the arrangements be done without the assistance of " mere man," it being pointed out that the ladies year did not come to often, and they would not run any risks of failure, Amongst other rules laid down we understand that up till midnight ladies will seek their engagements, the sterner sex having the usual privilege of keeping their seats and smiling; while a fine of sixpence, it is mooted, is to be imposed on any gentleman crossing the hall without being escorted by " Us." One thing is sure, that is a well prepared floor, while the decorations and the supper; well, never mind, be there, tho Parakai Leap Year Social is to be a total eclipse. Ladies will have tho pri velege of paying 3s at the door, gentlemen " free," baring fines.
