New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report: — At Westfield yards on Wednesday fat cattle were yarded m average numbers, and first quality improved in price. Inferior fatted sold at late rates. Prime oxen made to 29s per 100 lb; otheis 23s to 555; cows and heifers, 19s to 22s per 100 lb ; steers Bold at from £6 12s 6d to £13 2s 6d ; cows and heifers, £5 6s to £9 17s Gd Tho veal pens weie well filled, and sold at late rates. Heavy vealers «old at £3 Is, medium weights £2 2s to £2 14s, othere 20s to 38s, smaller and fresh dropped 3s to 12s bd ►Sheep were yarded in larger numbers than usual, and showed no improve nient in price. Best wethers sold at from 16s to 20s 3d, others 13r to 15s 3d ; ewes, 10s 6d to los 6d ; lambs Bold at late rates ; for first quality 11s 6d to Hs 3d, others 7s to 10s. Pigs were yarded in good number*, and gold at late rates.
Alfred Buckiand & Sons-, Sales. Messis Alfred Buckiand and Sons report: — On "Wednesday, May 26, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, we yarded beef to the number of 402 head. There was a fair demand, and values wero similar to last report. Choice ox to £1 5s 6d ; prime, £1 3s to £1 4s 6d, cow and heifers, IGs to £1 5s j steers ranged in price from £6 to £11 16's; cows and heifers, £3 10« to £8 los. Fat and young calves came forward increased numbers, and sold freely at from £3 10s to £4 16s for runners; heavy■calves, £2 10s to £3 5s ; choice medium suckers, jbl lOb to £2 os, light los to £1 ss, fresh dropped 3s to 10s (85 sold). There was a full entry of mutton, the quality of d which was good. Competition ■was steady, but there was little or no alteration in prices. Extra pnme heavy wethers £1 to £1 2s, heavy J 8s 'Jd to' 19s 9d, medium 16s to 17s Gd, light and unfinished 12s (id to 15s; best ewes 14s to 16s, good 12b 6J 1o 13s Gd, others 9s to 12s, stores Cn Gd to, 8s Gd. A fair supply of pig? .sold at prices which wore on a par with late sales.
