WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Held its ordinary monthly meeting on Friday. Present: Messrs. A. Cochran (chairman), J. O'Neill F. Dye, H. H. Adams, V. F. KerrTaylor, J. Greenwood, F. Poynton, W. McCathie, Jas. McLeod and H. Day. M r c. A. Cawkwell, County clerk and treasurer, and Mr Gerald Jackson, County engineer were in attendance. COKRESPONDENCE. A. Holt, asking for a strip, of land to be taken for road purposes at Swanson. Eeferred to engineer. P. Reynolds, Kumeu, refusing to contribute half cost 'of drain. Cr. Kerr-Taylor. "Letterreceived," if they won't pay towards it. I won't bother. Public Works Department, appointing Mr. W. S. Short, solicitor, Wellington, to oca commissioner to hold an inquiry as to the control and maintenance of Hellensville bridge. It was necessary to adduce evidence to support I the Council,s case.

Cr. McLeod : I have asked Mr. Cawkwell to aske the Board if they are prepared to continue paying half cost ? If so this leaves only one matter to discuss.

Cr. McLeod was appointed to conduct and manage the case for the County.

Messrs J. Kendall and J. A. Nelson, complaining of road at Tuapaki from Buxton's corner, to the top of hill at Nelson's, also about a bit of the road across the swamp past the bridge, and the two short hills needed grading and ruts filled. Left to engineer and Riding member.

• Under-Secretary asking, why the Coronation Half subsidy had been with-held from Waimauku. Cr. Kerr Taylor, said they would not erect the words " Coronation Hall, " and this was necessary to1 comply with the conditions. The engineer had therefore to get this done and a new cheque was necessary less the cost of board.

Cr. McLeod mentioned the need of platform an the Ohirangi siding for landing metal. So far no steps had been taken to erect it. Cr. Kerr-Taylor, opposed the Harbour Board getting control of the ferries.

Deputation was, received from City Council, re Council taking over pipe track. '
