SWIMMING CARNIVAL.

The Helensville Hot Springs Swimming Club held their third Carnival in the Springs Swimming Bath on Friday evening last, when, notwithstanding other attractions, there was a fair attendance, and the programme gone through was a good one, all the items "being well contested. The Club Handicap was the best event of the evening, the diflerent heats being well fought out. Carleton, who received 18secs, winning after a good race with L. McLeod, who was second. The Breast Stroke Handicap was won by L. McLeod by half a yard from C. McLood after an even race, the time being 42secs. LeGrice easily won the plunge for which there were 6 entries, and also accounted for the Long Dive. The Plate Diving Competition, which was a now event was won by L. McLeod. who secured six plates from the bottom of the bati; in one dive, G. Nicholls coming second with five plates ♦ The teams race was again won by Parkhurst team.

The Handicapping Avas good all through, although perhaps Carleton was well treated in the Handicap, Messrs Coates and Garry (judges), Laird and Lambert (starters), and tho secretaries, Messrs G. Willis and Tui McEwin, carried out their duties well, the function passing off vm-y satisfactorily.

The dance in the Parakai Hall after the carnivol was well attended, the music being supplied by Misses Little and Donovan, a great number taking advantage of tho fine night. On the whole the carnival will be a financial success, which should encourage the Club to hold another within a few months.

We 'would again draw the attention of the Domain Board as to forming some plan to light the baths, although the management had got the best light procurable in the town, it was inadequate .owing to the steam arising from the water. As the Board derive a certain amount of revenue from these functions, we think it is their duty to assist in this way at least
