"AROSINE."

ALLEGED SWINDLE,

A COMPOUND AND ITS PUB

VEYORS

Wo regret having to put before the pubic the following1, taken from tho N.Z, Times of Thursday last, m connection with the compound called " Arosine," and hope the perpetrators of tho-swindle will meet with severe punishmont if it is as alleged, not only for those interested here, but for the public generally.

Cabled information has been received by the Wellington police that J.P. Gilhnore has been arrested at Melbourne on a oharare that on or about February 12th, 1912, at Wellington, he conspired with another man to dofraud Charles Sims, of Wellington of £22 16s. It appears that early in the month of February three men arrived in Wellington from Australia and took offices at 105, Customhouse quay and, exhibited placards which indicated that they were the De Charles Mobile Company, importers and manufactures of Sydney. Melbourne, and Adelaide. They put on the market a compound called •* Arosine," and claimed that it was ~thp ■■worlds best spray for orchards and vineyards. On the pla-< cards was the information that "it adds 15 per cent, to your crops and saves you time and labour. Sixty gallons for thirty penco; absolutely nonpoisonous' A compounded powder; mix in cold water and ready foi use in ten seconds. Eradicates all diseases of vegetation." ♦• Arosine " was further stated to beja cleaner of stables, fowl tuns, piggeries, etc. Several testimonials wore attached to the advertisement praising the merits of the mixture for Us diverse purposes. M,t Charles Sims, of Wellington, was induced to form an agency for "Arosine." It is alleged that the predominating feature of the business was that agents .had to pay prompt cash as soon as the compound was delivered. Two of the taeu hired a local motor-car and set out for Auckland, appointed agents at various towns en route. Suspicion jvas later aroused and inquiries wero made by Detective Andrews, who found that tho fivin obtained goods from various business places on credit.

The - Dominion analyist tested the qualities of '"Arosino" and reported adversely on it. Detective Andrews essayed to trace the principals of tho firm, but ie transpired that the motorcar had broken down at To Aroha and the men had entrained for Auckland and gono to Sydney. It is probablo that an escort will leave this week for Melbourne to bring tho arrested niau to Wellington.
