Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report:—

On Wednesday, January 31, at our weekly Westfiold fat cattle stock market, fat cattle yarded to the number of 289 head. There was an improved demand and an advance of 10s to ! 5s per head from last week's report. Choice ox. to 265, ordinary 2os to 255; cow and heifer 20s to 235. Steers ranged in price from L 7 2s 6d to Ll2 sa; cows and heifers, L4to L 8 ss. Fat and young calves in full supply. Heavy calves were lower; runners, £3 3s to £5; heavy calves, £2 5s to £2 16s; choice suckers, 30s to 40s, lighter, 16s 265; strall and fresh dropped, 4s to 10s. (76.) Ihere was a moderate entry of mutton, which met with a fair sale at values on a par with last week. Heavy wethers, 16s 6d 18s (no extra yarded), medium and light 13s 3d to 15s 6d; best ewes 13s to 15s, others 8s to 12s 6d. (1402 sold.) The 284 lambs penned sold at prices a shade firmer than last week. Best 13s ix> 15s, others 10s 6d to 12s 6d; stores, 8s to 10s. Pigs of all descriptions continue to sell at extreme values. Baconers, L 2 12s to L 3 10s; lar^e porkers, L 2 3s to L 2 10s lighter L 7 13s to L 2 Is; slip 3, 16s to 19s; weaners, 13s to 18s. (98 sold.) At Pukekohe on Tuesday, January 30. we held our first sheep and ram fair in the new sheep fair yards. Fully the adveitised numbei were penned. The attendance was extra large, and a most successful sale resulted. One pen failed to change hands.
