The committee appointed to inter* view, ladies re forming a: committee to open the Library on three afternoons a-week, stated that several ladies had expressed their willingness to undertake the duties of Librarian.
The Secretary was instructed to ■write the ladies asMng them- to meet the Chairman at a convenient time to form a Ladies Committee.
The Secretary read the following letter from Mr E. 0. Cfrbhes the Secretary of Education, in reply to the Library's application for Subsidy to Public Library.
"As explained in the extract fron? N. Z,' Gazette, a copy of which appears on Page 2 of the form, the Department cannot grant subsidy or donations especially for building or on Concerts given for a similar purpose, Accord* ingly it has been found necessary to reduce your claim from £156 to £5 19. This means that the Library draws a subsidy on £30 19s, which is made up by the Department adding t-25 and th"en giving a subsity on the full amount, of 3s 4.94 th.d in the pound. Roughly speaking the subsidy to which this Library is eutitled to will be £4 12.
An account of 4s 4d was passed for payment. The next meeting will bo held FribayFeb. ltb.6.
