WOODHILL.

(Own Correspondent.)

The Woodhill School closed a very successful year on the 21st inst., over 87 per cent of the sixth standard having gained certificates of proficiency, and all the higher standards doing well. The event was celebrated by a picnic during the day in the Reserve with races for young and old; practically every competitor getting some memento of the day to take home. The weather being somewhat stormy, refreshments were served in the school rooms. Then followed a concert in the evening, presided over by Mr R. Monk, the children contributing some nice items, and the singing of Misses Fletcher and Donovan, Messrs Ingram and McGill and the Maori Choir, with violin solo by Mrs McGill, being highly appreciated. During the interval the Chairman presented the following school prizes : — Standard Vl—Clarice Gregory, 1; Charles McGill and Louie Nathan 2; John Pengelly 3. Std. V. —Louis Nathan Std. IV— Clyde Griffin, 1; John Muri, 2. Std. lll.—Thelma Hoe, 1: John Frost, 2. Std. II. —Pua Dawson. Std. I.—Violet Cane, 1; Hazel Smith, 2. Primers.—Douglas Campbell, 1; Rupert Wilkins, 2; Mavis Barns, Champion Tennis player —Pua Dawson. After the concert the Hall was cleared for dancing, which was kept up with spirit till the small hours of morning, Miss Donovan presiding at the piano. Supper was provided by the ladies catering committee, proffering an abundance of good things, to which the company did ample justice, everyone going home thoroughly satisfied with a long day's enjoyment.
