TOWN BOARD

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday evening, 11th inst. Present: Messrs Jas. Stewart (chairman) Jas. McLeod, J. A. Wilson, A. Becroft, C. H. Hammond.

Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

A deputation from the LibraryCommittee, consisting of Messrs A.. J. Hill, C. H. Spinley, J. C. Rimmer, and W. B. Card waited on the Board in reference to the New Library Building. -

Mr Hill explained that the £75 was almost raised for the lifting of the grant for the building, and that the building was in progress and would be finished in time to be publicly opened before the stated time, and asked them to carry out the lifting of the grant.

Mr McLeod thought it would be as well for the Board to notify the Minister in charge that the grant would be lifted up to L 75, and that the building, would be completed and opened before the 31st inst. He moved a motion to that effect, which Mr Wilson seconded.

In answer to. the Chairman, Mr Spinley said the ground deeds were in his hands.

' Mr Rimmer suggested that the Board should take the Libraryover. The Chairman and Mr McLeod said that would have to be considered later.

A letter was received from Mr G. A. Jackson, Waitemata County Council Engineer, re Swing Bridge grants.—Letter received.

(Discussion on the Swing Bridge appeared last week). Mr McLeod explained that he had obtained the Sanction of the Government Engineer in amending the plans for a steeper wall set in mortar for the abutments to the Swing Bridge. His action was confirmed-. The chairman stated that the Board had received notice to undertake the immediate spending of a grant of LIOO for the cemetery and Ll5O for the road to the nursery. He also stated there was L 250 new money granted to the Helensville Hot Springs. Application from Stewart Bros, for two permits for new houses on the embankment of the Awaroa River. Permits granted. Accounts paid between meetings amounting to LlB 18s 6d were passed, and accounts amounting to L235s 6d were passed,for payment. The Clerk stated there was L 240 of rates outstanding. Mr Megson asked that the water channel in front of his premises be attended to. The Chairman stated that they were doing as little as possible in connection with drainage work pending the permanent work coming on, but if it was considered really necessary something would be done meanwhile. DOMAIN BOARD. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Accounts amounting to L 42 19s lOd, paid between meetings", were passed, and accounts amounting to L 26 6s 6d were passed for payment. A letter was read from the gardener (Mr Harris) re tennis courts and requirements needed. The Chairman stated he had ordered what was required. Chairman's action approved. Mr McLeod referring to the batter round the bowling green, thought it was a mistake to make it perpendicular, as people jumping off the bank on to the green would destroy it more than if the batter was rounded. It was resolved that the matter be referred to the Engineer. The matter of procuring wooden taps at-; the Springs was discussed, if. The secretary stated that the takings at the Springs were not improving as much as was expected. It was resolved that Mr Sheffield be informed that he could still use the grazing at the Springs subject to a month's notice. On the Chairman motion it was decided that there should be no charge for camping on the Springs grounds, subject to the gardener's sanction as to where camps were pitched. Mr J. A. Wilson was installed as visiting member for the month of December.
