KAUKAPAKAPA.
RESIDENTS' BALL. The Plain and Fancy Dress Ball given by the residents of Kaukapakapa on Friday evening last, was attended by upwards of 50 couples and proved a pronounced success, there being several visitors from Auckland, Helensville, and other parts. This was the first ball of note that has been held in Kaukapakapa for the past two years, and those who had the management of the function had spared no tiouble in making it one of the most enjoyable yet held in the district. Tb-e Hall was nicely decorated with nikau palms and flowers, the stage being draped with curtains and bunting, while the supper table at the bottom end of the hall, laden with sweetmeats of every description, and nicely set ofi with flowers, gave the finishing touch to a scene denoting pleasure to those present. The floor was in good order, while the -music aupDlied by Meredith's band of 3 play ere,* was excellent, and the danc. ing was kept going with enthusiasm into the early hours of tho morning, from the Grand March, lead off by Mr F. Dye, Arcadia, to the grand finale. The extras were ably supplied by Misses Little, Rimmer and Stewart. All those in fancy dress sustained the characters they represented. Mr H, Dye, with the double part of Lady in Crinoline and the Mad Hatter, taken from Alice in Wonderland, was well got up, as also was Mr F, Dye as Arcadia. The ladies' dresses' .were all very nice and we failed to be able to choose any one in particular as the belle of the ball. The ladies committee, consisting of Mesdames Goodwin, Jaffrey.R. Drinnan, and Stewart, Misses Dye, Armstrong, Drinnan and others, together with a strong gentlemen's committee are to be congratu* lated on the way the arrangements had been carried out.
The Masters of the Ceremonies Messrs F. Dye, W. A. Drinnan, H. C. Jaftrey, and R. Kinlock, energetically performed the duties allotted to them, and there was no wall-flowers of either sexto pin thpir programmes to the wall; the secretaries also deserve credit for the manner in which they executed the task undertaken by them. The cupper was banded to the ladies by their gentlemen partners who spared no pains in seeing that ample justice was done to the plentiful supply of good things provided. Those in fancy costnines were:— Mrs R. Drinnan, Mrs Gamp ; Mrs F. Stewart, Kate Renaway ; Mrs Jaftrey, Early Victorian lady ; Miss Dye, Olde English Lady : Miss M. Drinnan, Sunflower ; Miss Armstrong. Dutch Girl; Miss Gardner Pierette; Miss Little, Gretchen; Miss H.
