At a meeting of the Auckland Edu* cation Board last Wednesday, Mr E. C Banks moved in accordance with notice given : '• That in districts where there are between 10 and 30 children, and where the Department cannot see its way to make the u^ual grant cf about £250 for the erection of a schco), the Board ask the Department to make a grant sufficient for the erection ofabuildiDg about 15 i'eot square; such building to be constructed, so that when the population increases and a larger building is req'uiivd, it can be used as the schoolporcu.'V., +-.ir Banks 'directed attention to the difficulties under which the pioneer settlei-o laboured in going into new districts t> open up rough and virgin country, and urged that, their burdens in tho iratter of che education of their chiidipn should be lightened by greater facilities being granted in the maune.r indicated. The chairman thought that the Government bud iv the past been most pereimonious in giving aid to tjui establishment of schools in back districts. The motion was unanimously -carried.
