Milk came down a penny a1 quart at the beginning of the month.
Mr Armstrong, representing the New Zealand Post Office Directory, is touring the district. ,
The Ratepayer's Roll is now open for inspection at the Town Board Office.
Don't forget the great show of Spring and Summer goods at Stewart Bros., on Friday next.
The s.s. Storm sailed from Wangan> nui tor Holensville at 4.35 a.m. on the ■2nd inst., with general cargo.
At a meeting of the Helensville Hunt Club held on Monday evening last, it was decided to hold a Hunt Club Ball on October 12th. -
We are informed that Messrs Steele and Fowler of Kivi Tahi, have sold their farms of 800 and 2000 odd acres respectively, to Mr Bell, a Waikato farmer.
The Helensville Town Board have notices in our advertising columns that Mr John Hand has been appointed Ranger, and Mr F. Tucker, Poundkeeper, for the town district.
The Rev. Kirgan informs us that he is preparing a concert in aid of the Presbyterian Church. A. number of small children are practising the May-, pole dance.
Mr G. Lush, manager of the Dominion Fish Canning Company, informs us that he expects to'ro-open the fac* tory about the 18th inst, As Mr Lush intends to push on the business, he has secured the services of a thoroughly practical fish curer, and expects to put through a large quantity: of fish during the season.
Last Thursday a meet of the Helensvillo Hunt Club was held on Mr W. Rimmer'B farm, when there was about seventeen members present, and a number of spectators, and a good run was the result. There were no spills, the riders seeming averse to having their spills recorded against them. Mrs Rimmor kindly supplied afternoon tea, which was much appreoiated. Tho Club will hold a Paper Chase on tho 14th inst., when an interesting run is anticipated.
So as not to clash with other meetiugs taking place on Thursday, the promoters of the Helensville Swimming CUib have postponed their meeting till Friday evening next, September Bth., in the Foresters' Hall supper room. We would urge all those interested to be present, as such a Club would be a great adjunct to the Hot Springs revenue, and would allow of some of the swimmers taking part in the different Carnivals held throughout the Colony, as the Club womld be affiliated with ths New Zealand Swimming Association.
We particularly draw attention of our readers to the Ratepayers Meeting called for Monday next, September 11th. to consider the proposed loan of £10,000, for water and drainage schome. As the proposal will be laid before the meeting by tho Chairman of the Town Board, we hope that every ratepayer in the district will be present. The poll is advertised to eb taken on Thursday the 21st inst, and everj ratepayer should thoroughly understand what he. is going to do before going to the polling booth ; wh.eth.ei- he is voting for or against a scheme that is or is not going to assist the progress of the town and district is what lie should consider and to do that in his own best interests he should thoroughly understand the proposals. We therefore expect to chronicle a big attendance ai, the Foresters' Hall on Monday evening next.
The voice of the calf is now to be heard throughout the land, evidencingl that the farmer's holiday is about at an end, and that the arduous toil of another milking- season ( and the consequent monthly cheques ) is about to begin. The calf is no w a very valuable side-line, and with prices as they are at present, it is certain that the "slaughter of the innocents," which was so much in vogue a few years ago, will not be in evidence this year.
For coughs and colds take Tonking's Linseed Emulsion, easily taken, children like it. From all chemists and stores. l»6d, Zs(id, 4s6d.
