THE EIGHTS OF WIRELESS.
In reply to a question by Mr. Wilford as to the legal position of the New Zealand Government regarding its contract with a wireless telegraph company, and as to the obtaining of an indemnity by the Government against possible proceedings by the Marconi Company^ for infringement, the acting Prime Minister states that there is no reason to feel the slightest anxiety, but in order to remove any wrong impression the Government assures the hon. member that the interests of the Dominion are fully protected by a bond for £10,000, given by a surety approved by the bankers of the Post and Telegraph Department.
TSF OKAKEI BLOCK.
On Thursday afternoon the Native minister informed Mr. Myeis that the request of the Auckland City Oouncilfor legislation to enable it to acquire the Orakei native block, with a view of laying out an ideal gaiden suburbs, would receive every consideration. He points out, however, that the interests of the native owners as well as the lessees necessitates the fullest inquiry, so as to allow1 of their being equitably dealt with,
.• A Long Day off: — In tho course of the debate on the Mokau statement on Thursday, the Hon. Mr. Ngata replied to the fact that it so happened that all four of the Native members were on the Liberal side. Mr Fisher (iionically) : "It so happens." Mr. Ngata : "You suggest it is by design." (Turning to the member for "Wellington Central): "Well, yes, perhaps it is. So long as there are Liberal candidates going to the Native constituents, so long will they be returned. One day there might be Opposition native members but it is a long day off." Mr Massey: " Tnat day willnot come Until the Opposition is in power. The uatives will then rctu,n Opposition native members, all right." ''Well," returned Mr. Ngata, after the laugh, " that need not trouble the present Opposition. The day is yet too far off, " and the laugh went round again.
