CORANG A MITE. TOTAL WRECK OP THE STEAMER BRUNSWICK, STEAMSHIP MOVEMENTS. (Received December 20, 10.45 p.m.) Melbourne, December 20. The tiial of the two brothers Lewis, who stuck up the Bank of Australasia at Albert Park, was concluded to-day. The elder, John Lewis, was sentenced to ten years’ hard labour, and Robert Lewis to seven years’ hard labour. The Peninsular and Oriental Company’s steamship Clyde arrived yesterday evening.
(Received December 20, 1 p.m.) Sydney, December 20. A serious fire occurred at Maitland yesterday, whereby eight shops were destroyed and a child burned to death. The Union Company’s steamship Waihora arrived this morning fiotn Auckland.
(Received December 21, 1 a.m.) Later. An official inquiry will be held into the loss of the steamer Corangamite, in default of the master showing cause why this should not be done. The steamer Brunswick has been totally wrecked in the Manning River, but no lives were lost.
(Received December 20, 10.45 p.m.) Adelaide, December 20. The Orient steamship Austral, with outward mails from London to November 19 1 h, arrived this morning. The German Lloyd’s steamer Preussen arrived here to-day. One death from smallpox occurred during the voyage. The passengers, consequently, have been placed in quarantine.
