REPORTED GOLD DISCOVERY AT CASCADE RIVER.
Tho YVrtkiUipu Mai) says:—"We are informed that, a Mr Licking, of Chiistchmch, who has hepn recently l>o!-ani.sing her wean the heads of the Dnrt and ll«i\s Rivera, in the direciion pf the Cascade River, saw gold in con-
siderable quantities lying exposed on the rock) r beds of some of the creeks. He reports, also, that ho. came across quartz reefs thickly impregnated with gold. Last week he met Mr Robert Clark, Arrow River, an experienced and well-known miner, and made arrangements with him to organise a party of four men to go out iu a month's time to prospect the locality. It is further stated that Mr Licking undertakes to defray the expenses in connection with the expeditiou as soon as he comes back from Chtistchutch, where he had to return on business. He disclaims an experience in goldmining, but we understand that he showed Mr Clarke a pretty large parcel of nice rough gold as a pi oof of his statement. We give the leport as we received it, and will await further developments with inteiest."
