ANTI-RENT AGITATION IN

IRELAND.

SERIOUS RIOTING IN CORK.

The anti rent agitation in Ireland is increasing daily. Numerous meetings were held yesterday in different parts of the country for the purpose of discussing the question. Several prominent members of Parliament who were present delivered speeches in which they advocated non-payment of rents, wiihout a proper abatement being m-ide by the landlords.

Serious rioting took place in Cork yesterday evening. The police charged the mob, wounding many of the rioters.

The Rnssian Government are exhibiting a desire to remove the strained feeling which existed some time past between Russia and China, and to secure the friendship of the latter. It is announced that Rnssian officers at Vladivostok are ordered to do all in their power to cultivate amicable relations with China.

It is rumoured that Germany contemplates attempting to mediate between Russia and Bulgaria. The man Drew, arrested at Sydney in July last, on a charge of embezzling a large sum of money from a firm of solicitors at Norwich was sentenced to ten vears.

More than ordinary activity is displayed by the dynamiters in America, with the immediate result that Donovan Rossa is deposed, owing to the want of activity lately shown by him in the affairs of the organisation.
