GREY COUNTY COUNCIL.

The adjourned meeting; of the Grey County Council was held at Greymouth at 10 am. yesterday ■ present —Councillors Guinness (Chairman), Clifford, Warren, Mai shall, Taylor, M'Kechnie, Ryall, Paifitt, and Foley. The report of the Finance Committee was read and adopted and the accounts passed for payment. Cr. Marshall was unanimously appointed Treasurer for the ensuing twelve months.

The following tenders for painting the County Council offices were ieceived ;

Teiemakan Bridge.—The leport explained the damage to the bridge, iesulting in the stoppage of traffic for five days, and why no meeting had taken place lint ween himself and the Westland F.nginver.

New River Bridge, Marsden.—The action of the Road Overseer in the ex-

penditure made on this bridge was confirmed.

The action of the Road Overseer in regard to various other works rendered necessary by flood damage was approved of; and certain small works that he recommended should be done were authorised.

The Chairman regretted they had not the advice and assistance of their Road Engineer at that meeting, owing to that officer being laid up with the measles ; but be was happy to say that he was now much better.

The Chairman explained that an agreement had been entered into by the late chairman and the Midland Railway Company to enable them to go upon certain lands at once for the purposes of the railway so as to protect them from vexatious actions until such time as the acquisition of land was settled under the Public Works Act. The Company wanted to go on with the railway at once without waiting the 40 days required by the Act; but this would be done without prejudice to any subsequent claims likely to be made on the Company. The action of the Chairman in signing the agreement was endorsed.

Resolved to communicate with Government respecting the £SOO appropriated for the road from Greenstone to Teieraakun settlement.

Cr. Foley moved “That a track from Nicholas’s track to end of Loughnnn’s farm be formed and metalled. Distance, half-a-mile." Cr. Ryall seconded.

Cr. Clifford said the proposal could not be entertained, as it was a new work.

The motion was ruled out of order.

The next ordinary meeting was fixed for Tuesday, 14th December, at 7.30 p.m.

The Council adjourned at 6.35 p.m
