Another start was made at nine o’clock this morning. ! As to whether it will reach here to-night ui not depends on the progress which may have been made in the repairs to the roads and creek fords. The man Brebner, of Greymouth, whom the police insisted was a man named Murray that was wanted for forging and uttering, was duly brought up before the Resident Magistrate at Christchurch ; but the moment the prosecutor saw him, he said the man in custody was not the person at all. The Magistrate of course at once discharged the accused. Brebner pleaded that as he had been arrested at Greymouth he ought to be discharged there. The Magistrate admitted the hardship of the case, and said it was one of those contingencies the law had failed to provide for ; but he had no other alternative in the circumstances than to discharge the accused.
