FIRE BRIGADE.

The monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Town Hall last evening ; present—Captain Burger, Lieut. Anderson, Treasurer Biayshaw, Foreman Smith, Murtha, Ziegler, Rudkin, Stevenson, Close, Adamson, M‘Ewen, Howe, Valentine, Gcbhardt, Micklejohn, and Martin. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the out waul correspondence approved of. Accounts to the amount of £8 14s fid (including one of £6 10s to Messrs Arnottond Seahrook, Greymouth, for a ladder), were passed for payment. The following letter was read from the Secretary to the United Fire Bi igades Association of New Zealand : United Fire Brigades Association, New Zealand, Napier, October 12, 1886. Dear Sir—l have great pleasure in handing you a list of subscriptions raised for the benefit of ex-Oaptain King. On the 25th September I forwarded to the Mayor of Richmond, the President, and the Secretary of the Metropolitan Fire Brigades Association, Melbourne, a draft for £lO5 to be presented to Captain King. There are still one or two Brigades that have promised to subscribe, but I have not yet received their amounts. The following are receipts to date :

The Treasurer's balance showed £l3 16s 5d to ci edit. Mr Schaivi was elected a member of the Brigade, Messrs Brayabaw and M'Eweu being the investigating committee. It was resolved that the members of the Greymouth competition team be allowed the sum of 10s. each from the general fund towards their expenses. Receipts to members’ fond taken at the meeting amounted to Bs.
