BEACH V. GAUDAUR.
THE MYSTERY CLEARED UP. A late issue of the Sydney Mail contains the following sensational account of the Beach v. Gaudaur race: Considerable stir was occasioned in Sydney on Wednesday ivening, on the receipt of the following explanatory telegram by Mr George Hill from Mr Decide. It explains wbat has been most mystifying to all Australians: “London, September 21. “ Won everything. Cleared £16,000 on the steamer, half for myself, half for Sydney friends. Beach foxed right. Belling changed to near y 20 to 1 on Gandaur. Won £SOOO from one American bookmaker. Beach foxed three times, and each time Gaudaur’s friends wagered heavily any money. At given signal Beach went away and won. Time fast, but wind and tide favourable. Beach has received money presents amounting to nearly £3OOO from Australians here, who won heavily. Beach will easily heat Ross on Saturday. Remember to friends.— Deeble.”
The above telegram will explain to every Australian mind what must have been a mystifying thing. No man could have stopped as Beach did and then go on again.
