BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Town Hall on Thursday evening; present—His Worship the Mayor (H. Burger, Esq.), Councillors G. Anderson, Killeen, Olden, Mulvihlll, Jorgensen, Maloney, Fitzsimmons, MTlroy, and Ziegler. The following is the conclusion of our report of the proceedings, continued from Saturday’s issue. FINANCE COMMITTEE’S REPORT. The Finance Committee recommended— “l. That final notice be served on the School Commissioners for arrears of rates due, demanding payment within one month from date. After careful consideration, the Committee are of opinion the Commisioners are liable to pay rates, and think it advisable to *ake this course; and that in the event o£ non-compliance proceedings be taken.” The report was received, considered, and adopted, and the Town Clerk instructed to serve the necessary notice. SUPPLY DRAIN TO SAW-MILL. The Chairman Public Works Committee reported that Messrs Nicholson and Fairbairn requested permission to construct a supply-drain to their sawmill, length about 20 chains. The application was received, and referred to the Public Works Committee to report to next meeting. MAIN STREET TANK. Cr, Mnlvihill brought under the notice of the Council the fact of there being no regular supply of water for the tank in Main street; and, by leave, moved—“ That a supply of water be procured for the tank in Main street, and that a Committee of the whole Council take the necessary steps to deal with the matter.” The motion was seconded by Cr. Jorgenson, and carried.
PUBLIC WOKS, The Council now adjourned for thirty minutes to enable the Public Works Committee to come to some decision in the matter of A. W. Quy and Co.’s contract, with leave to ait again. On resuming The Town Clerk read the Public Works Committee’s report re A. W. Quys’ Borough Reserve work contract. A letter had been received from A. W. Quy and Co., requesting, in consideration of the great loss sustained by them in executing their contract on the Borough Reserve, that the Council would grant them the sum of £4O as compensation. The Committee, after reviewing all the circumstances resolved that the sum of £4O be recommended as a compensation, and in final settlement of the contract. On the motion of Cr. Mulvihill, seconded by Cr. Maloney, the Council received and adopted the report, and resolved that the sum of £4O be passed for payment to A. W. Quy and Co. Cr. Jorgensen called the attention of the Public Works Committee to necessary repairs in front of Mr Henne’s house. This concluded the business of the Council.
