CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held at Hokitika on Tuesday afternoon; present—The Chairman (Mr Michel), Messrs Burger, Jack, and Qrimraond. Letters were read from the— Premiers Office, Wellington, advismg payment of £IOO subsidy. —Received. Secretary Kumara Benevolent Society, ro Carlstron’s case, and stating that an attempt was being made to ge*t him admitted to the Auckland Old Men’s Home.—Reccivod and held over for consideration. Numerous telegrams with reference to Andrew Carlstron were also read and received. The Chairman said that by the telegrams received it appeared the Government had sent Carlstreu
back to Hokitika at the Board’s expense. He said it was bard tor the Board to have to maintain the man, a« they bad not sent him to Rotorua, and the Charitable Act Aid was not then in force. —Mr Burger thought the Board was not liable if the question Was properly gone into.—Mr Grimmond thought the matter worth conaideration, and quoted from the Act to show that the Auckland district should by rights contribute. He moved that the Board’s solicitor be consulted, — Seconded by Mr Jack and carried.—Eventually the matter was left over till the arrival of Carlstron himself. Secretary Kuraara Hospital, forwarding account of £7 10a, <kc.—Received. Receipts £IOO, expenditme, £750, balance, £B2 7s sd. Accounts to the amount of £IBO were passed for payment.
