The French barque Glaueuse, 481 tons, from Charsule to Melbourne, with a cargo of spirits, has gone ashore at Point Lonsdale, Port Philip Head*, and is in a critical position. (Received October 4, 1.30 p.m.) October 4. The barque Glaneuse is expected to become a total loss, but the cargo will probably be saved. No loss of life has occurred by the wreck. Sydney, October 4. Arrived, the steamship Rotomahann, from Auckland, yesterday morning. The revenue of New South Wales for the past quarter amounted to
£1,060,000, being a decrease of £5,500 as compared with the September quarter of last year. The annual demonstration of the Eight Hours’ League is taking place to-day. A great fight took place between several hundred kanakas on the plants, tion near Bundaberry on Sunday. Several were shot, but not fatally. Spears were also freely used. A telegram from Catherine station slates that three men, named Hibbert, Cahill, and Williams, were camped at the Little Gregory River, between the Victoria River and the Delamere. Williams and Cahill left the camp for the purpose of catching fish, and while so engaged the natives attacked them, and speared both men. Williams has since died from the wounds he received.
