SUICIDE BY DROWNING AT BRUNNERTON.
The Brunnerton correspondent »f the Argus wrote yeaterd iy :—A man named John Tiensure committed suicide shortly before seven this morning by deliberately walking into the river, about one bandied yards from his hut. Treasure is a man weM known in this district, and also at, Recfion. A few years ago be was considered a miner with enough to live comfortably upon, having been very fortunate in his speculations. He has a brother in Boatman’s and another in California. A lad named lisher, living across the river, saw Pleasure going down to the water’s edge, and walk in up to bis waist. On looking around as if he wished some one to see him, he coned and sank right down. Where he Vol te:! in ukle is a very s-luii g n:; d o’;'.* ;wo just Glow.
i censure had been drinking heavily of late, and was supposed to have a
touch of delirium tremens. Besides, he was keenly sensitive to the disgrace of being brought before the Court, at which he was under summons to appear that morning. He tried the day before to borrow on the security of his watch money enough to pay the fine likely to be inflicted, and, failing in that, he vowed that he would not be locked up. Those who saw him commit the rash act were not close enough to interfere to prevent him. He walked into the river fully dressed, and as soon as he went out of his depth he disappeared, and no trace of him has been seen since. Unfortunately there is neither life-buoy, drags, nor boats. Had there been a drag it is possible that his body might have been recovered, though there would have been no chance of saving his life. No effort was made to recover the body till after dinner, and up to the present the parties dragging have been unsuccessful.
