NEWS FROM KIMBERLEY.

A private letter haslieen received in Greymouth from Dr. Langdon (late of Brunnerton) dated Derby, August 4th, in which he states that owing to the unfavorable reports constantly coming in from the field by reliable men, it is a very unwise step for anyone thinking of leaving this colony for the new rush. He says there is no doubt but some gold has been found, but it has mostly been in very small patches and scattered over a wide extent of country. It is probable, however, according to the doctor’s account that as the country is bat partially explored, other finds may turn ap at auy time. Out of all the number of passengers who went out by the Triumph, some ten of them, upon seeing actually how things stood at Derby, completely lost heart, and decided to return to New Zealand by her. The reat have, after some amount of hanging about Derby, left for the diggings, some on horses, some on drays, and not a few on foot, taking all their possessions in primitive wheelbarrows. At the present time the entire population including permanent residents, and intending diggers is only about 200. There are three hotels good, bad, and indifferent, and prices are very little higher than in Greymonth. There are several stores, including a new one opened by a couple of business men from Wellington district, who appear to be doing well. Goods are plentiful of all kinds, and sold at very reasonable prices. Dr, Langdon concludes with advising every one to stay where they are for the present, He was to start ot once for the field, and expected to be about 28 clays on the road.
