In the Legislative Assembly to-day, Sir Patrick Jennings, the Premier, announced that the Government intend to proceed with the proposed increase in the Customs Tariff, and the questions of Land and Income Taxes would receive further consideration by the Cabinet. (Received September 8, 1.5 p.m.) Melbourne, September 8. The Premier, Mr Gillies, is at present in communication with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Federal Council, with a view to united action being taken by the Colonies in regard to the New Hebrides; also to adopt necessary measures for the protection of the Colonies from the influx of recidivistes. In the Legislative Assembly last night, Mr M'lntyre gave notice of a question on the subject.
