NO. 1 SLUDGE-CHANNEL.

A meeting of miners using the Government sludge-channel No. 1 was held at the Public Hall, Dillman’s Town, on Saturday night, for the purpose of taking steps to remedy the alleged constant blockages that are said to be taking place in the channel. The following parties were represented at the meeting : —Wildridge and party, 4 men ; Harris and party, 6 men; Couaghan and party, 6 men ; M‘Masters and party, 6 men; M‘Kenzie and party, 6 men; Hillier and party, 4 men; M'Neil and party, 4 men; Bell and party, 5 men; Nicol and party, 7 men ; Roth well and party, 5 men ; Ginty and party, 5 men ; Borlase and parly, 6 men. Mr Wildridge moved—“ That a deputation wait upon Mr Band, the water-race manager, for the purpose of informing him of the unworkable state of the channel; and to request him to remedy the same.” The motion was seconded by Mr Brown and carried unanimously.” Mr Hay moved—“ That the” miners present at this meeting object to pay for any blockage over half-an-bour out of each three-hour shift.” The motion was seconded by Mr Conaghan, and carried. Mr Roth well moved—“ That the deputation to wait on the Manager have full power to bring all possible influence to bear on Mr Band, so as to get the sludge-channel to work in a satisfactory manner.” The motion was seconded by Mr Brown, and carried. It was resolved that Messrs Hay, Wildridge, Galligan, and O’Rourke form the deputation. The meeting then adjourned till Tuesday evening, at seven o’clock p.m., to receive the report of the deputation. The deputation accordingly waited on the Manager the same night, at his office, and thoroughly’ went into the matter with him. Mr Band informed the deputation that he would do everything possible to remedy the grievance complained of.
