Telegrams to hand from Sistova report the arrival there, from Rustchuk, of Prince Alexander, who was received by the people with great enthusiasm. The horses of his carraige were unyoked, and the vehicle drawn by the people through the streets on the Prince starting for Tirnova, his next destination. San Francisco, August 30. Great enthusiasm now prevails in Roumeiia in. favour of Prince Alexander, and it is considered likely that the status quo will be restored, Russia being thereby deprived of a chance to intervene in Roumelian affairs. August 27. The Russian Government disavow any complicity in the kidnapping of Prince Alexander. Owing to quarrels which have arisen between Sir J. Pope Hennessy, Governor of Mauritius, and Mr Clifford Lloyd, Lieutenant-Governor and Colonial Secretary of that island, Mr E. Stanhope has ordered the latter gentleman to Seychelles Island, a dependency of the Mauritius Government. August 28. Mr Gladstone has issued a pamphlet dealing with the Irish question, in which he abandons the land purchase schtm*. He asserts that the sense of nationality of Scotland and Wales has bestirred Ireland, and that the latter country only needs to persevere to obtain her demand.
