[united press association.] Timaru, August 22. Two informations for forgery have been laid against Thomas Hall, now in custody on a charge of having attempted the murder of his wife in Timaru. The informations have been taken at the instauce of G. L. Meason, his partner. Christchdrch, August 19. The police have received a telegram that Mrs Osborne, a steerage passenger per s.s. Wakatipu, jumped overboaid from that vessel last trip from Sydney. Dunedin, August 22. A contractor named Peter Grant was killed hy falling underneath a train just as it was starting at Pelichefc Bay last evening. He was a married man. The Selection Committee have delayed their selection of the interprovincial football team till to-morrow. The weather is still gloomy and threatening, and some heavy showers fell today. Except on the southern line where there is a good deal of work yet to do > the railway department have nearly repaired the damage done. The water on the Taieri Plain has gone down very much. Wellington, August 21. Lady FHzherbett died at her residence, Lower Hutt, this morning, aged 80. The barquentine May leaves for Cambridge Gulf on Friday, taking 7q passengers for Kimberley. Auckland, August 21. A sad boating fatality occurred yr-sterday at the mouth of the Kerikeri River, Bay of Islands, resulting in
the drowning of two boys named Hansen, and one girl, a daughter of Mr. Mountain. The search party succeeded iu recovering the bodies of two children. Dargaville, M.H.R., addressed a meeting of the unemployed last night at the City Hal I. There was a lively HCfne, lasting till nearly 11,.o'clock. Ultimately a resolution was passed condemning the previous vote of censure passed by the unemployed upon him.
