THE KIMBERLEY GOLDFIELD.

The following in reference to the Kiruberley Goldfield is published in tbe Sydney Morriug Herald on the 9th instaut, being telegraphed from Adelaide : The Linda Weber has arrived afc Port Darwin, four days out from Wyndham, with 75 passengers from Kmberley, Sorce of the passengers have been to the geld field, and are returning disappointed. Others, meeting returning diggers, turned back and some never left Wyndham. The population at the diggings is estimated at 3000 to 4000. Numbers are returning dissatisfied. Afc Wyndham the wages dropped from half-a-crown an hour to working for tucker. The Government pay 12s per day for labour,

but having employed the necessary complement of men, now only offer the rest work for tucker, and several have accepted it. The Wyndham water supply is carted three miles. Mr "VVelden crossed the Leopold Ranges to Cambridge Gulf. Horses sold by auction at £7, £lO, and £ls, and previously £lO was refused for some of them. The blacks are becoming troublesome; half-a-dozen men are missing along the Derby track. News from Derby, dated August 3rd, received by the s.s. Hauroto, states that an officer arrived from Mount Barrett. He reported all diggers were getting gold. One party had 920z5., another 200z5., and others averaged sdwt. to loz. daily. Over 1000 men were on the ground. Good water and feed are plentiful for the whole distance, which Sergeant Troy covered in seventeen days. In returning he met 260 men, 210 horses, and 160 days and waggons, and also barrows well on the way. One man, named Marriott, had been speared by the natives. The diggers retaliated by killing four of the blacks, and wounding others. The medical officer quarantined the Triumph, on account of there being one case of scarlatina on board. The New Zealanders refused to submit, and they seized the ship's boats and went ashore. Pratique was then granted.
