At the practice meeting of the Fire Brigade last night, the following letter was received from the Secretary Greymouth Brigade : —“I have been requested by our Fire Brigade to ascertain whether your Brigade can make it convenient to come to Greymouth on November Bth, 1886, to assist in holding a friendly competition on that day. If you decide on coming, let me know as early as convenient.” The members present were unanimously in favour of accepting the invitation, and it was decided to adjourn to Thursday (this evening), at half-past seven o’clock, when the question of formally accepting will be finally settled. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council will be held this evening. At the County Council meeting on Tuesday evening, tender of Messrs Maher and O’Malley for crate protection work at Goldsborough was accepted. The .tender of Mr Setterini for the road from Kumara to the Beach was accepted. At the inquest on the body of the late Mr John Lange, at Hokitika yesterday afternoon, the jury returned a verdict that deceased shot himself with a pistol while suffering from temporary insanity. The funeral will take blace this afternoon. Messrs Sprinz and Hamburger, complying with the wish of many of their customers, have resolved to sell bargains of drapery, clothing and boots, at the Empire Hotel, Dillman’s Town, for one week from this date. Dr. Speer’s Private Dispensary, established for the scientific and speedy cure of chronic, nervous and special diseases, is now removed from Wellington, to the Octagon Chambers, Ross’ Buildings, Dunedin.
