No evidence is forthcoming to account for the death of John Hancock, whoso body was found in Lake Wakatipu. Christchurch, August 6. A Chinaman named Ah Sow, who has been residing in Southbridge for some time, committed suicide last night at about 10 o'clock by taking a dose of opium. Deceased was about 50 years old. Wellington, August 6. Mr W. Stace, of Pahatanui, has been killed by a log falling on him. Judgment in the case of Ames v. Pharazyn, in which C. J. Pharazyn whs fined ,£IOO and costs for having illegally voted at the election of a member for Thorndon, was delivered in Chambers this morning by the Chief Justice. His Honor upheld Mi Pharazyn'sappeal :nid quashed the conviction of the Rf-sident Magistrate. Costs were given against the plaintiff. " Mr W. K. Bishop, the New Zealand delegate to attend the Grand Lodge session of Druids, in Melbourne on September 2nd, left by the Rotomabana this afternoon. Napier, August 6. An unusually high tide and heavy sea last uight damaged seven chains of the sea wall of the Murine Parade, and destroyed 13 chains of the wall. The damage ia estimated at £llOO.
