HOME RULE.
Whilst Europe all afe arming, And waiting for the word, And Emperors and princes, Each with his sharpened sword, With frowning brow they stand aghast To watch our No. 2, And should it prove a great success, They’ll know then what to do. Our Diliman’s politicians stand Quite equal to the world ; No Washington more proudly felt By Freedom’s flags unfurled; And should this case in point succeed, The armies will disband, And sweet contentment reign at Home, O’er all our fatherland. We have Gladstoneites and Chamberlains, And great Parnells by scores, And meetings held six times per week Within fast-bolted doors, And a “ Commercial Traveller ” Acting here as spy; But should they get him in their lines, Like others he would die. Our Churchills here, and Rossas, Speak in milder tones, Still recommend the dynamite To burst the hearts of stones. Our great committees quarrel, too, But dont’t believe in fights ; Their eloquence is measured by The little perquisites. We’ll set their minds at rest at Home, And telegraph the word; To keep the nations waiting long I’m sure it looks absurd. Let them take the lesson from Our democratic school, And mark the progress we will make By our own true Home Rule. Home Rueeb,
