[REUTERS TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. CRICKET. AUSTRALIANS V. SURREY. AUSTRALIANS V. KENT COUNTY. (Received August 2, 11.15 a.m.) London, July 31. The cricket match, Australians versus Surrey, was concluded to-day at the Oval. The Home team, with 427 only four wickets down, resumed their first innings. The remaining seven wickets fell rapidly, the wicket being heavy ; owing to the rain which had fallen during the night, and which contiuued a.t intervals throughout the day. The innings closed for 501 runs, of which Maurice Read contributed 186. The Australians, being 316 behind, went in for their second inniugs, but were only able to put together another 107. The Home team thus won the match in one innings with 209 runs to spare In the Australians' second innings, Giffen was the highest scorer with 39, bowled. The attendance at the Oval was very large, notwithstanding the unfavourable weather. (Received August 3, 1.20 p.m.) August 2. The Australian cricketers commenced a match to-day at Canterbury against eleven of Kent. There was a good attendance notwithstanding the heavy rain which fell during the morning and continued at intervals throughout the day. The Home team went in first, and when the stumps were drawn the score stood at 118 with five wickets down. Lord Harris scored 24, caught; G. G. Hearue, not out, with 38. Play was frequently interrupted by heavy showers.
