(Received August 1, 5.35 p.m.) London, July 30. The cricket match, Australians v. Surrey, was resumed to-day at Kensington Oval. The weather was fine, and there was a large attendance. The Home team went in for their first innings and succeeded in making a marvellous stand against the Australians. Mr W. W. Read scored 80 runs, and R. Abel and Maurice Read, who followed, maintained .their places at the wickets until time was called. Both players completely mastered the bowling, and ran up the scores respectively of 144 and 156, and were not out when the stamps were drawn for the day, the score then standing at 427 with three wickets down. (Received August 2, 0.45 a.m.) July 31. The Australian cricketnrs were entertained at a banquet last night by Mr Dangar, of Sydney. Scott, captain of the team, in responding to the toast of the evening, admitted his team was unequal to the flower of the English cricketers. Lord Harris, who spoke during the evening, attributed the small success of the visitors to the accident which Spofforth received to his hand.
