THE NEW ZEALAND COURT AT THE EXHIBITION. Wellington, July 8. The following cables were read in the House this afternoon regarding the accusation of mismanagement against New Zealand officials at the London Exhibition:— From the Treasurer to the AgentGenera! : " The reflections made on the New Zealand Court, such as ' being inferior to other colonies,' *not worthy of the colony,' 'third rate museum,' 'too much natural history,' 'Bnller's collections over prominent,' 'inadequate attention to useful production,' 'gold obelisk desirable,' 'not received justice.' Advise what if any truth in these statements, and general estimate of the Court; also, do you think it desirable to do anything?" From Agent-General to Treasurer: " Have summoned a Commission to consider the measures, but meanwhile rest assured that such sweeping detraction is not merely without "warrant, but entirely contrary to general verdict, and really quite ridiculous. None of the Courts comparable to Canada but yours. Compares well with Australian, having regard to the materials at Haast's command." The reading of the above in the House was received with applause.
