(Received July 8, 1.15 p.m.) London, July 7. A Gladstouite is elected for Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, in place of Peter StuiTock, Conse'VKtive. Thomas Sexton (Nationalist) ousted J. H. Haslett (Conseivativp) for West Belfast, Conservative candidates are elected to former Liberal seats for Wisbech (Cambridgeshire), Stratford - on- Avon, Leominster, and Carnaivou, held by John Bright, Lord William Compton, Thomns Duck-ham, and T. D. L. JonesParry respectively. Mr Sluw-Lefevre (Liberal) has been re-elected for Cential Bradford. (Received July 8, 2.30 p.m.) Evening. Osborne Morgan, Under-Secretary f»r the Colonies, (Liberal), is reelected for East Denbigh, but by a very small majority only. (Received July 8, 4.50 p.m.) . Later. Conservatives are elected fur il lo f o l. lowing seats held last Pailiament by Liberals:—Newport (Shropshire), Nuneaton (Warwickshii e), Frome (Somersetshire), and the following divisions of South-East Lancashire, viz., Heywood, Middleton, Rndcliffe, Stretford, Gorton, and Prestwich. For the remaining divisions of Swalh-EasJ. Lancaslnie, Westhoughton, nnd Eccles. Conservatives have ken reelected,
Gludstonites have secured seats for Elgin and Montgomery, and Conservatives have secured seats for the following divisions of North Lancashire :—North Lonsdale, Lancaster, and Chorley. (Received July 9,1 a.m.) Sir William Crossman (Liberal) has been reelected for Portsmouth, the other seat being secured by Sir Samuel Wilson. Mr S. Waddy (Liberal), who unsuccessfully contested North Islington at the last general election, is returned for Brigg (Lincolnshire), in place of Sir H. M. Thompson (Liberal). At to-day's wool sales, 13,200 bales were catalogued and prices firmly maintained. The latest list completed of the elections show 240 Conservatives, 47 Unionists, 121 Gladstonites, and 55 Parnellites returned. Liberal candidates for West Ham (Essex) and Accrington and Southport (Lancashire) have been defeated by Conservatives; while a supporter of Mr Gladstone is returned for Carmarthen. It is announced that the British Government will abstain from taking isolated action regarding the notification of the Russian Government closing Batoum as a free port. Madiera, July 7. The Rimutaka sailed to-day for New Zealand; the Ruapehu left to-day for Plymouth. (Received July 9, la.m.) Brussels, July 8. A serious fire broke out to-day in the University of this city, resulting in the destruction of the greater portion of the building.
