With this issue is published a Supplement, containing the Colonial Treasurer's Financial Statement, in a complete form. News of a sad disaster reaches us by cablegram from Sydney this afternoon. The Australian Steam Navigation Company's fine screw steamship Ly-ee-Moon, 1200 tons, Captain T. A. Lake, trading between Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, which left Melbourne for Sydney on Saturday evening, is wrecked a little to the northward of Cape Howe. The Ly-ee-Moon would probably have a large number of diggers on board, eu route to Kimberley. It is painful to relate that, so far as is known (by the Sydney telegram) only fifteen persons are saved. The Ly-ee-Moon was at one time the Emperor of China's yacht. Besides Mr George Mansfield and Messrs H. Jones and party (four) whom we mentioned on Saturday as bound for Kimberley, three others, viz., Messrs W. Werry and mate Graham, of the Christchurch road, and Mr E. Nelson (of Ross) took their departure by tram this afternoon, to take their passage in the Koranui, for Wellington, to-morrow morning en route to the new El Dorado. The Union Company's Pacific Mail steamship Alameda, arrived at Auckland at 4.30 yesterday afternoon, two days after time-table date ; but she stopped at Honolulu 20 hours and Tutniula (Samoan Island) an hour, where H.M.S. Diamond was at anchor. From the 24th to the 29th had heavy E.S.E. gales and a high sea ; hove to for 24 hours : on the 26th passed the Mararoa, Time, 20 days 17 hours 19 minutes. The Alameda sailed at daylight this morning for Sydney. The Rotorua sailed from Auckland at daylight this morning with the San Francisco mails for Wellington and the South. Bishop Suter, of Nelson, who arrived by Saturday's coach from Christchurch and proceeded on to Greymoivth, preached at Trinity Church, Greymouth, yesterday I morning, and confirmed a number. In the afternoon he preached at Brunnerton, and in the evening again at Trinity Church, to a crowded congregation. The Hon. D. Barkley, a Supreme Court Judge of India, was also a passenger by the coach on Saturday, and proceeded to Greymouth.
