THE KIMBERLEY GOLDFIELD.

[Per s.s. Manapouri, at the Bluff.]

Melbourne, May 12. The correspondent of the Age ab Perth, writing on April 30th, says: Since writing my laßt letter, a fortnight ago, very little news is to hand relating to the Kimberley goldfields. A few more men, with from 250 z, to nearly lOOoz. of gold, got entirely by gully scraping, have reached Derby, Itut what they say is only in confirmation of what is already known. It may be taken for certain that around Mount Baker there is a large tract of gold-bearing country that will pay for working. The gold at present obtained is alluvial, but all the diggers who have leturned speak highly of the prospects. The gold fever is raging in most towns in the colony. Indeed, so many parties have bpen made up for the diggings, that labour is scarce. Paities of diggers have left Perth and Freeman tie by steamer, the best equipped being that sent by Messrs O'Neill and Keane, under an old Baliarat digger named Longdown. Experienced diggers are being ferreted out and placed in command of the parties. The following telegrams are also to hand :

Paljierston, May 7. Ahnufc lOOOoz*. have been sent away, including some splendid samples, the largest being a nugget of 19ozs. Perth, (W. A.), M..y 11. By the steamer Oiway, which arrived at Cusdack from Derby on Sunday, news is to hand that a 290 z. nugget has been found by Slattery, a partner to Hall. This nugget, together with over 200ozs. of other gold, is on board the Otway. Up to the date of the Otway's departure, 2000ozs. had reached Derby from the Kimberley goldfields.
