At a meeting of the directors of the Greymouth and Kumara Tramway Company, held last evening, it was resolved to discontinue the Sunday morning tram, on and after to-morrow, the 10th inst.
The annual election of two auditors for the Jsoroiijjh is announced to be held on Tuesday, Ist June ; and nominations of candidates will be received up to noon on Monday, 2-ith May. The District Adjutant's Volunteer inspection parade on Thursday evening was fairly attended. Major Webb, assisted by Lieut. Spence, put the corps through several movements in company and battalion drill, including one new movement, which is to enable each compan 7 ui a battalion to act singly in defence and support—quarter of a company to attack,
quarter to act in support, and the remaining half ready to reinforce. Major Bonar, who was present, complimented the company on the efficiency of their movements m drill, although, he said, there was room for improvement. He stated that he expected to have six companies on the Coast parading together on the 9th November, the Prince of Wales' birthday. Major Webb also complimented the men on their drill, which had been executed so well that, he said, very little more exercise and attention would put the corps up to the best standard. The undermentioned Volunteer Corps have been formed into a battalion, and gazetted as the Nelson and Westland Battalion Rifle Volunteers—Right wing : Nelson City Rifle Volunteers, Stoke Rifle Volunteers, Blenheim Rifle Volunteers, Spring Creek Rifle Volunteers, Waimea Rifle Volunteers. Left wing : Westland Rifle Volunteers, Greymouth Rifle Volunteers, Kumara Rifle Volunteers, Inangahua Rifle Volunteers. The Christchurch coach arrived this afternoon, at the usual hour. The Church of England soiree to be held as a reception to the Rev. Thos. Hodgson will take place in the Theatre Royal on Tuesday evening next. Tea will be provided on the occasion, and is to be on the tables (including a bachelors') at 6.30 p.m. The tea will be followed by a concert, consisting of anthems, solos, and duetts, by a united choir of the various churches ; two or three recitations will be introduced, and doubtless one or two short addresses will be delivered ; the whole promising a very enjoyable evening's entertainment. Commander Edwin telegraphed at noon to-day that all indications are the same as wired yesterday, viz., that "Bad weather is expected between south-east and south and west; glass further rise, and very cold weather within 12 hours." The funeral of the late Mr Samuel Hughston will take place to-morrow afternoon, the procession of friends and acquaintances leaving the Hospital at two o'clock. Written tenders are required by the Grey County Council for works on the road Grey Valley to Teremakau, sections 6,7, 8,9, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16, Bell Hill. Plans and specifications can be seen at Mr Foley's store, Weslbrook. Tenders, addressed to the County Chairman, will be received at the County Council Chambers, Greymouth, till 4 p.m. on Tuesday, 25th inst. Each section is to be tendered for separately. A quadrille assembly will be opened at the Theatre Royal to-night ; to be continued on Wednesdays and Saturdays, at 8 p.m.
