At a meeting last night the Council resolved that a search warrant bo obtained, so that tbe cleik’s house may he searched for the missing books, and such other action he taken as may he deemed necessary by the Mayor. Wanganui, May 5. At a meeting to-day it was resolved to give Bryce a public reception on his arrival, to be followed by a banquet. Auckland, May 5. An inquiry aa to the grounding of the Taupo, was held to-day before H. F. Anderson and W. P. Moat, J.Ps., and Captains Erater and Todd, nautical assessors. After hearing the evidence, the Court considered Captain M'Coll took all possible precautions, and considering the state of the weather, did not feel justified in dealing with his certificate. An order was made as to costs, and the certificates of the other officers were returned. While the Orawaiti was on the voyage from Russell to Auckland, Robert Dudlow, coal trimmer, while cleaning the asb-sboot fell overboard and was drowned. It is supposed the propeller struck him, as he was never seen afterwards. May 6. Warrants have been issued for the apprehension of five men on a charge of forcible entry, with violence, huo the residence of James Hvder, of New Lynn. This is an agrarian dispute, and defendants claim to have acted under legal advice. CONVERSION OF NEW ZEALAND LOANS. Wellington, May 3. The Loan Agents have cabled ont the results of the Loan Conversion opeialions, which closed on Apia I 20th. The following debentures were brought in for conversion ;—Five per cm', loan 1863, £109,200 ; of 4-J- per cents., 10.40, £1,292,700; of 4 per cuts., 1879, £136,000; and of 0 per cents,, of 1860 and 1863, £135,000. The conversion, which, closed on 30th March gave a result of £2,466,400 out of £4,917,100 so that the lolal operations represent the conversion of £4,137,000 ont of £10.053,600 —a reresult respecting which the Colonial Treasurer has cabled his satisfaction.
