The steamship Wakatipu arrived from Wellington on Saturday night. The Hon. Mr Gillies, Premier of Victoria, and the Hon. Mr Griffiths Premier of Queensland, are present in Sydney, and will meet the Premier of this Colony to discuss a general scheme of defence for the Australsan seaboard.

Melbourne, April 26. Arrived, this morning, the P. and 0 steamship Carthage, from London.

News is to hand that the Tasmania Stea m Navigation Company’s steamer Esk has been wrecked near Low Head, at the entrance to the Tamar River. The crew and passengers were able to effect a landing. No lives were lost.
