[united TRESS ASSOCIATION.! Nelson, April 23. Smelting operations at the Champion Copper mine are now proceeding with great success. Since eleven o’clock on Sunday morning several tons of copper have run freely. The scene on the spot is very lively, and at night is very grand, the light from flowing molten metal lighting up the surrounding valley, Lnter. Thirty-five tons of copper have ran out in the last twenty-four hours. Christchurch, April 26. The body of a fisherman named Wm. Stewart, 50 years old, was found in the Heathcote river near the steam wharf yesterday evening. It is said that he was driving home in a trap on Saturday night and that the trap was found two miles below the wharf after midnight. It is supposed that he left it for some purpose and fell into the river in the dark. Dunedin, Aptil 26. M'Cormick, who was injured at Lawrence by a fall of earth, died on Sunday. He leaves a wife and five children.
