The Kumara Times Published Every Evening. MONDAY, APRIL 19, 1886.

We are compelled to hold over correspondence and several other matters of local interest.

The Hon. Mr Laruach, Minister of Mines, addressed a public meeting at the Town Hall on Saturday evening, and received a number of deputations. A report is given elsewhere. A number of deputations waited upon the Minister afterwards, and in reply to all he said he would first visit the goldfields before giving any definite replies. To-day, accompanied by his sou, Secretary, and Messrs Gordon, Seddon, Clarke, X)ungan, Inspector Emerson and Sergeant Keating, the Minister visited the sludge-channels and the various claims the owners of which had grievances to complain of or requests to make. We shall notice these in another isssue. We understand the Minister has conceded to lower the price of water from oOs to 40s per week to such parties as choose to pnv in advance ; and, to give all a fair chance to so start, a month s free water is to be given, for

this concession, on the motion of Mr W. Morris, a hearty vote of thanks was given to Mr Larnach. The Minister took his departure for Greymonth shortly after four o’clock this afternoon.

Members of the Skating Club and all others desirous of joining are requested to meet at the Theatre Royal this evening.

Professor Black is announced to deliver a lecture in the Town Hall to-morrow evening, at eight o’clock.

A meeting of the Hospital Fete Committee is to be held in the Town Hall this evening at eight o’clock. To-morrow evening the usual fortnightly meeting of the Trustees will be held.

The annual installation ceremony of W.M. and officers of Lazar Lodge, 1689, E. 0., took place in the Masonic Hall on Friday evening, Bro. Amos B. Wilby, J.P.M., performing the duties of installing master. The following brethren were duly installed officers of the Lodge for the ensuing twelve months :—Bro. Carl Mycklander, W.M.; Bro. William Morgan, Senior Warden; Bro. William Morris, Junior Warden; Bro. Emil Peters, Secretary ; Bro. George Shroeder, Senior Deacon; Bro. Thomas Knight, Junior Deacon; Bro. George Voysey, Inner Guard; George Anderson, Tyler.

Mr Smith, manager of the “ Called Back” Company, arrived here to-day. The programme for the entertainment on Thursday night will be given in to-mor-row’s issue.
