SCHEME OF GOVERNMENT FOR NEW GUINEA. JOHN DOUGLAS IN MELBOURNE AND FOR SYDNEY. (Received April 15, 1.40 p.m.) Sydney, April 15. A division was taken at an early hour this morning on Sir Henry Parkes’ motion calling in question the'action of the Government in regard to the New Hebrides, with the result that the motion was rejected by 66 votes to 41, including pairs. Adelaide, Apiil 15. Then' has been a slight run on the Adelaide Savings Bmk during the past two da \s, but there n no cause shown for it, and it is now subsiding. ' o
Melbourne, April 15. Public meetings continue to be held throughout the colony on the New Hebrides question. John Douglas, Government Resident at Thursday Island, is now in this city. It is understood that he approver! of the scheme for the administration of government of New Guinea by Queensland, subject to certain conditions. (Received April 16, 1 p.m.) April 16. It is understand that John Douglas, Commissioner of New Guinea, has submitted a counter memorandum regarding the best mode of administering that territory, and that the various Colonial Governments are in consul tatation on the subject, Douglas has left Melbourne for Sydney.
